Automated mechanisms and robots
An automated mechanism is a device or a machine that performs a specific task and whose operation cannot be changed. Car windscreen wipers and toilet tanks are examples of automated mechanisms.
A robot is a programmable automated machine that captures information about its surroundings, processes this information and acts on it.
Nowadays, robots are used in industry to extinguish fires, detect explosives, harvest crops, etc.
In order to control the processes performed by the robot, it is either connected to a computer or it has a built-in computer. The computer's microprocessors process the input signals and calculate the commands to give to the different parts of the robot, such as motors, displays, light, etc.
Microprocessors cannot communicate directly with the sensors or give commands to motors, lights, etc., so we need a controller to act as an intermediary.
A controller board is an electrical device consisting of a flat insulated surface that contains switches, dials and meters for controlling other electrical devices.
